Most of what we are asked to build now is not a dedicated room — it is a stair landing, a living-room alcove, or a corner of a bedroom given over to a desk. The brief changes: a narrower desk run, a single task lamp instead of a full lighting scheme, and storage that closes completely rather than an open shelving wall, because a compact desk is seen from the rest of the room whenever it is not in use. Daylight and glare at the exact seated position are checked at survey, because a corner that looks bright from the doorway can put direct sun straight onto a screen for half the day.
A home library is a storage-and-reading brief before it is a desk brief. So the useful conversation is not “how much is a home office” but “which of these six things do you actually want”.
