Choose a bathroom vanity for a Dubai home by checking the waste, wall, height and access first, then specify board, top, drawers and lighting.

Bathroom vanity units in Dubai: choosing the type and specifying the details

Choose a bathroom vanity by working back from the room. Find out where the waste and water feeds are, what the wall is built from, what space the door and circulation leave and what the unit has to store. The vanity type, top and basin follow from those facts. After that, specify the carcass board, drawer layout, lighting and installation order so the unit still works after years of humid use.

Five constraints to check before choosing a design

Halo's vanity units page lists five things its team checks at the site visit, and notes that any one of them can rule out a design on its own.

  1. The waste trap position, which decides the drawer layout before anything aesthetic does.
  2. The wall build-up. Blockwork can take chemical anchors and a loaded floating vanity. A gypsum partition cannot without a frame behind it, installed before boarding.
  3. Basin and counter height, which change with the type of basin.
  4. Access into the building. Service lift size, corridor turns and door widths decide whether a long unit is made in one piece or in modules joined on site.
  5. Electrical points for backlit mirrors, demister pads and shaver sockets, placed within the bathroom's IP zones with the driver reachable later.

Measure these before you collect inspiration photos. They narrow the choice quickly.

The page is plain about the wall-hung trade-off. A floating vanity with a stone top, two basins and a full cupboard is a substantial cantilevered load, and the wall has to take it. Ask your contractor to confirm the wall construction and fixing method in writing before committing to a floating unit. For a double vanity, Halo sets the basin centres from elbow room outward and checks the second waste run at survey.

Specify a carcass for a humid room

The failure Halo describes most often is a swollen carcass base on a unit made from standard furniture board. Its own specification is moisture-resistant board with every cut edge and basin aperture sealed, plinths detailed to keep the base off standing water, and hinges and runners chosen for humidity.

When you compare offers, ask each supplier to name the board grade for the carcass and fronts, how cut edges and the basin cut-out are sealed, the top material and thickness, the basin make and model, and the hinge and runner brand. An offer that leaves these open describes how the unit looks without saying what it is made of.

Match the top and basin to the height

The top material changes what the basin can be. Solid surface lets the bowl join the top seamlessly with no silicone line. Natural stone takes an undermount basin with a polished aperture. A countertop vessel raises the rim. Halo's page gives an example: a 40 mm top plus a 140 mm vessel puts the rim near 1,010 mm, comfortable for an adult and too high for a child. It suggests around 850 mm for a built-in or undermount basin, with the carcass lowered when a vessel sits on top.

Walls are rarely square, so Halo templates stone and solid-surface tops on site once tiling is finished, instead of cutting them from the drawing.

Draw the drawers around the plumbing

The bottle trap usually sits exactly where the top drawer wants to go. Flat-pack units often answer that with a dummy front. Halo builds a U-shaped drawer notched around the trap so the drawer used most is still a working drawer. Whoever makes your unit, check how the trap is handled on the drawing before production, and make sure the isolation valves stay reachable after installation.

Plan the mirror and lighting with the electrician

The page recommends light at face height from a backlit or side-lit mirror, because a single downlight above the mirror throws shadows across the face. Mirror cabinets can include demister pads and internal sockets. Ask for an access panel to the LED driver, since drivers fail long before mirrors do and replacing one should not mean breaking tiles. All of this needs fused spurs in the right places, agreed before the walls are closed.

Put the installation in order

  1. Survey the finished room and record the waste and feed positions.
  2. Sign a setting-out drawing with the drawer layout drawn around the trap.
  3. For a wall-hung unit on a gypsum wall, fix the frame or noggins before boarding.
  4. Finish the tiling.
  5. Template the top on site.
  6. Install: level, anchor, connect the trap and feeds, seal to the wall and adjust hinges and runners.
